This area is a shopper’s paradise, full of contemporary shopping centers, open-air markets, and independent stores and shopping streets.

It’s also packed with shops, restaurants, and cafes, and at night you can find plenty of bars and clubs to keep the party animals amongst you entertained.
The surrounding suburbs are more residential, with less to offer visitors. However, you can find some good affordable hotels here, and many offer a shuttle service into the city center.
What currency is used in Chihuahua?
The local currency in Chihuahua is the Mexican Peso. Credit and debit cards are accepted across the city, so you should be able to pay for most things by card. That said, I do suggest carrying a small quantity of Pesos in cash in case you want to purchase something from a smaller shop, stall, or street-food vendor that doesn’t accept card.
You may find that in more tourist centric areas and facilities, like museums or popular attractions, you could have the option to pay in US Dollars. However, I would advise against relying on this as it is entirely at the discretion of the vendor.
Is Chihuahua expensive?
Chihuahua, like most of Mexico, is relatively inexpensive, particularly compared to the neighbouring USA. Prices for everything from accommodation to food and transport are a fraction of what you might expect to pay back home.
When planning how much to budget for your trip, it definitely pays to check current exchange rates and economic situations close to your travel dates. But, unless there is a major shift in the Mexican economy, you should still be getting quite the bargain from your visit.
What are the best things to do in Chihuahua?
There are tons of historic buildings to visit in the historic city center of Chihuahua. The most opulent of these is the 18th-century baroque Metropolitan Cathedral. Just a short walk away is the similarly grand Casa Chihuahua Centro de Patrimonio Cultural, once a government building, now converted into a museum.
There are several more interesting museums worth visiting, including Casa Juárez, a restored 19th-century government headquarters, the Museo Semilla technology museum, and Centro Cultural Universitario Quinta Gameros, which is set in a beautiful turn of the century mansion.
